What one behavior would you ask people at work to change?
Your Friday Trigger Question #113
Some behaviors add value, and other behaviors destroy value. Some behaviors reduce the load on co-workers. Other behaviors make extra work. (Some people behave and other people misbehave. You get the picture.)
With that in mind, what one thing would you ask your employees (or team members) to do, to do differently, or to stop doing, that might have a hugely positive impact?
It's not that easy to come up with only one behavior change. Or is it?
If you know what should change, then why have you not already asked them to make the change? (What one thing is holding you back from asking?)
If you are unsure what behavior change to ask for, consider this example of an executive who knew exactly what would make an enormous difference in his company. When given the opportunity to influence millions of people into making less work for his employees, he immediately made this request:
"Please remember to put the shower curtain inside the tub."
Apparently that's what Mr. Conrad Hilton, the founder of the Hilton Hotel chain, said when Johnny Carson asked him if he had a message for the audience and the millions of viewers. (This was on the NBC Tonight Show some time in the 1960s. I don't have the original reference. Sorry.)
